Visualizing Grouped Data with Stacked Bars
The Stacked Bar Chart is designed to display grouped data where multiple categories are stacked within each bar. It is ideal for analyzing segmented data while still showing the overall total.
Configuring the Chart
Data Connections
To set up the Stacked Bar Chart, configure the following fields:
User Document
Connect the chart to the relevant Data Document containing the dataset to be visualized.
Date Data Connection
Select the Date Field that will be used for sorting or filtering data over time.
Example: Use "Created At" or "Invoice Date".
Group by Status
Choose a status field that will determine how data is segmented within the bars (e.g., "Pending," "In Progress," or "Completed").
Group by Document ID
Select the Document ID(s) that will define how data is grouped and sorted.
Multiple document IDs can be selected when working with related data documents.
Example:
For "Sales by Staff Member", select:
The Staff Member ID (to group sales by staff).
The Sales Order ID (to sort and calculate the sales data).
Projection
Define the specific data field to be displayed (e.g., sales values, document counts, or another numerical field).
Chart Configuration Options
After setting up the data connections, the following options need to be configured:
Option Name
A free-form text field to define the name of this configuration (e.g., "Monthly Sales Summary" or "Invoices by Status").
Data Index
Select the appropriate data field (index) from the data structure that will serve as the foundation for the analysis.
Example:
For "Documents by Status," select “Document ID” to count the documents.
For a chart analyzing "Total Sales," select the sales value field.
Operator
Choose the type of operation to be performed on the data:
Sum: Adds up numerical values (e.g., total sales).
Avg: Averages the values (e.g., average spending per month).
First: Displays the first occurrence in the dataset.
Count Values: Counts the number of occurrences (e.g., total documents by status).
Type
Select the data type:
Number: For numerical fields.
String: For text-based fields.
Sort
Define the sorting order for the data:
1: Ascending (e.g., smallest to largest or A to Z).
-1: Descending (e.g., largest to smallest or Z to A).
By configuring the Stacked Bar Chart with these options, you can analyze segmented data and relationships clearly, providing both detailed and aggregated insights.
