Understanding Sorted Bars Chart

The Sorted Bars Chart allows users to visualize data in a bar format with two available options for grouping:

  1. Documents from Date to Date Grouped by Document

  2. Documents from Date to Date Grouped by Value

This chart uses the same data connection fields as other charts, with added flexibility for grouping by values, statuses, or data types.

Configuring the Chart

Data Connections

To set up the Sorted Bars Chart, you will configure the following fields:

  1. User Document

    • Connect the chart to the appropriate Data Document from which the data will be pulled.

  2. Projection

    • Specify the exact data to be visualized in the chart (e.g., document names, numerical values).

  3. Group Data Connection

    • How the data will be grouped depends on the selected chart option:

      • Documents from Date to Date Grouped by Document: Group data by document name or ID.

      • Documents from Date to Date Grouped by Value: Select how the data should be grouped:

        • Value: Use a numerical field for grouping (e.g., sales, prices).

        • Status: Group by specific statuses (e.g., “Pending,” “Completed”).

        • Data Type: Use prior-created data types for grouping.

  4. Date Data Connection

    • Select a Date Field to define the range or sorting order of the data (e.g., "Created At," "Invoice Date").

Chart Configuration Options

After configuring the data connections, complete the chart setup with the following options:

  1. Option Name

    • A free-form text field to name the chart configuration (e.g., "Sales by Status" or "Documents Created in Q1").

  2. Data Index

    • Select the appropriate data field (index) from the data structure that aligns with the grouping or analysis being performed.

    • Example:

      • For grouping by document, select "Document ID".

      • For grouping by value, select the relevant value field.

  3. Operator

    • Define the operation to apply to the data:

      • Sum: Total values for the selected field.

      • Avg: Average the values (e.g., average sales).

      • First: Use the first occurrence in the dataset.

      • Count Values: Count the total number of occurrences (e.g., total documents or statuses).

  4. Type

    • Choose the data type:

      • Number: For numerical values.

      • String: For text-based data.

  5. Sort

    • Set the sorting order for the bars:

      • 1: Ascending (e.g., lowest to highest).

      • -1: Descending (e.g., highest to lowest).

By following these steps, you can configure Sorted Bars Charts to visualize grouped data effectively, ensuring clarity and actionable insights for your users.
